The jetty is just boards, many missing or loose, nailed across some bearers. The dance became rather frenzied as it involved many of the offerings to the gods that were to go in their boat. We watched as the little yellow sacrificial boat was loaded with effigies of the nine emperors, a little table & nine chairs, a teapot, nine containers of water that had been chanted over & passed through the smoke of burning incense, lots of fruit & incense sticks.
After all this came the inevitable crackers. A long string of bungers was lit on the edge of the jetty & it boomed away.
The street procession has its climax with the launching of the gods in the yellow boat and was still a couple of hours away so we didn't stay as we intended to see the Hindu procession the next night & we had a long walk back to the hotel.
