Night Hawk
Busy Week
08/11/2009

We went to a BC Lions (CFL) game on Friday night. Our friend Bobby Singh (#62) plays for them and gave us great seats with his family - it was fun watching his kids enjoy the game.
We started the evening by going down early with Barry's sister and husband (Fred and Leslie). We walked around downtown and took in a lot of interesting sights, then dined at "Jimmy's" then walked to the stadium - all of which were within a few blocks. We will take credit for the win as they have only won one other game this season so far.

Saturday we had a tour of a Holland America Cruise ship. We had to make some quick plans as our son Steve and his girlfriend Marlies (from Ottawa) were arriving after a six day hike along the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island. Since Fred was the tour guide he had to be there early, so Leslie went to the ferry terminal to pick up Steve and Marlies then take them to the cruise ship. All was done in time - yeah. It was a great tour of the ship and a wonderful luncheon was provided. It was a typical meal you would be served on the cruise. Gorgonzola and pear salad, Washabi crusted steak with jasmine rice and fresh veggies, and a dessert to die for - plus all the wine you wanted - Yummm!
We left the cruise ship and went back to Fred and Leslie's and saw that Bob (Singh) and family were home, so we went over and visited with them for a while. We then returned to Chilliwack as Steve and Marlies were very tired.

Sunday we headed to Hope and the Othello Tunnels - here is a short history In the early 20th century, the Canadian Pacific Railway was determined to link the Kootenay Rockies region of BC to the coast by rail. Rather than bypass the Coquihalla Gorge -a 91m/ 300ft chunk of solid granite - the Othello Tunnels were constructed by slicing through five different rock faces almost entirely by hand. . We then drove through the town of Hope where there are many, many wood carvings decorating he streets. Some carvings would be 15ft. high of bears, eagles etc. etc. - beautiful.

Monday we took a rainy drive up to Whistler where the 2010 Olympics are being held. On the way we stopped in Horseshoe Bay where Sewells Marina and Thunderbird Marina are and our favourite Restaurant "Troll's". Steve and Marlies treated us to dinner for our Anniversary. They have put a new highway through to Whistler - quite an improvement over the old highway. We saw the Athletes accommodations under construction etc. We walked through Whistler Village then returned home. The view was much better on the way home as the sky was clearing nicely.

Today Steve and Marlies are visiting Marlie's Aunt and Uncle in Maple Grove this evening, so we just took a small tour of Cultas Lake which is by our house. It is quite the tourist area with water slides, mini golf, two real golf courses, and multiple provincial campgrounds - a great place.
I will post a few pictures in the photo gallery, but my camera is on the fritz so they are not good.

Hot Hot Chilliwack
07/31/2009

It has been very hot this past week here in Chilliwack 33-39 degrees - Whew!
We decided to take our boat up to Chilliwack Lake to cool off. It was still very hot up there, but on the water is was very nice.
We toured the lake and fished a little. We would stop at the streams that were the runoff from the mountain snow - that really cooled us down. We stayed for about five hours and had a great time.
We will start to travel further afield now that the new baby and family are settled in.
Our oldest son Stephen and his girlfriend Marlies will be here next weekend and we will see what adventures we can get up to.
Staying home today as our new sofa is being delivered and friends are coming over for dinner - I think we will have ribs and fresh Chilliwack corn - yumm! Unless its too hot, then we will go out to dinner - decisions, decisions.
A nice thing about living here in Chilliwack is that lakes, mountains, trails, parks etc. are all just a short drive (15-30 minutes). We have golf courses anywhere from five to fifteen minutes away. There is always something to do. Loving it!!!

Chillin' as Nanny and Grandad
07/27/2009, Chilliwack

We have been full time grandparents awaiting the birth of our second grandchild. He finally arrived a week late, but a healthy 8lb. 14oz. Mom had a hard delivery and surgery with blood transfusions, but is absolutely great now.
We were sticking close until Austin was born, now we are sticking close to help out while Paul is on night shift for two weeks. Everything seems to be settling in now, so we should be able to start traveling and sightseeing again.

Our oldest son, Stephen and Marlies are coming to visit August 8 or 9 after they do the West Coast Trail which will take them from five to ten days depending on weather etc.

That is all for boring old Nanny and Granddad for now.

Our flights are booked to return to Florida for November 8th. Yippeee!!
