Taking a breather ...
Since we'll be off the boat during July and August, we plan to post only three times per week. The Captain will continue writing a practical Blue View post each week, we'll keep you up to date on what's happening with us and then throw in some cruising nuggets as well.

Happy 240th Birthday, America
Growing up in New England, I took for granted just how lovely a summer’s morning can be in Massachusetts. It’s comfortably cool and everything smells clean and fresh. Spider webs glisten with morning dew and it’s just great to be alive and breathe in the new day. Being back at Lin’s house conjures up wonderful childhood memories of summer mornings past. And this is not just any morning … it’s the 4th of July, the best holiday of the summertime in the USA.

Crazy Horse
We had visited here 20+ years ago with the kids, but you really had to use your imagination to envision what the sculptor had in mind for the mountain then. Not so now. Crazy Horse's noble huge face is finished and his extended arm, pointing to the lands of his people, is very distinct. Begun in 1948 and continuing through a second generation, the completed monument will be the largest sculpture in the world and pays homage to Crazy Horse, legendary war chief and symbolic of Native American heroes and great men.
A Mother Earth Celebration with native arts and crafts added to the huge collection of artifacts on display at the the Native American Museum. In the afternoon, a PRCA rodeo was being held on the grounds. What a treat! We hadn't seen a rodeo in years. Bareback bucking bronc riding, bull riding, barrel races, steer wrestling and calf roping kept us enjoyably occupied for the afternoon.
Tomorrow we head east a bit to the Badlands.
