Mast ready for priming
31 October 2010 | Opua
David has been working 12 hour days to get all the hardware stripped from the mast. I began sanding to remove all the paint and corrosion two days ago. Man, the mast seems about 200' long when you're standing at one end contemplating the work before you. Using a sanding wheel and grinder, I got about half of it stripped the first day and the balance done yesterday. We've both been sore and lame by day's end.
Today, some welding to the boom then an acid wash and sealer. Tomorrow, hoping the fair weather continues, we'll prime it and make the painter's deadline of having it in the shed by Wednesday. Then maybe I can talk David into taking a day off!
