Taking a breather ...
Since we'll be off the boat during July and August, we plan to post only three times per week. The Captain will continue writing a practical Blue View post each week, we'll keep you up to date on what's happening with us and then throw in some cruising nuggets as well.

Happy 240th Birthday, America
Growing up in New England, I took for granted just how lovely a summer’s morning can be in Massachusetts. It’s comfortably cool and everything smells clean and fresh. Spider webs glisten with morning dew and it’s just great to be alive and breathe in the new day. Being back at Lin’s house conjures up wonderful childhood memories of summer mornings past. And this is not just any morning … it’s the 4th of July, the best holiday of the summertime in the USA.

Surfers, seahorses and slightly sad
We took a trolley to Manhattan Beach this morning. This popular California beach is home to beach volleyball and surfers galore. Surprisingly for a sunny Saturday afternoon, it was not particularly crowded. We walked to the tiny Roundhouse Aquarium at the end of the pier and were mesmerized by the moray eels swimming from tank to tank via a water-filled connecting tube overhead. Another tank contained huge, vibrantly colored starfish and giant anemones. Marcie's favorite exhibit was the Pacific seahorses. Largest of all seahorse species, these guys were nearly 6” tall.
Rather than eat lunch out, we found a local supermarket and bought a baguette, some cheese and grapes and had a picnic back in the room. We made last minute phone calls and used up every single one of our cell phone minutes.
Bittersweet...happy, but sad, to be going home to Nine of Cups.
