Going Home! (April 2014)

We mooved from Deshaies to the north side of Riviere Salee yesterday and anchored just north of the first draw bridge heading to Pointe a Pitre. The bridge on opens at 430am to go south so we had a buggy night in the mangroves. There were literally thousands of white herons flying through the canal near sundown. I thought I had seen a lot in Florida but this was amazing. We ate some fried wahoo and had some rum going to bed early.

Woke at 330am this morning to get ready to travel the river south. Pulled anchor and made the bridge at its 430am opening. Made our way through the dark to the next bridge by 500am and then into Pointe a Pitre. The sun was just starting to come up as we set anchor by Ilet A Cochons. Thank goodness the French have a very well marked river and channel. All the bouys were right were they needed to be and all were lit.

Thankfully this is as far East as we are going to go! We are now 1200 miles East of Key Largo where we left in 2008. We have travelled 443 miles since we left St Thomas. Almost all of this was heading East, a little South but mostly East into the trade winds. From here on out it should be smooth sailing south then throw up the spinnaker after we leave Trinidad. Sailing is great when it works, hopefully that will be the case from here on.
