Cruising down the ICW means you get a lot of practice calling the bridge tender on Ch #9. Of course timing your arrive with their scheduled openings sometimes creates a traffic jam on the water.

What were they thinking

There always seems to be somebody not paying attention.
Yes, when the tide goes out the bottom gets closer to the surface!

In the background on the right, you see several sailboat masts rising up. The area behind the tree line in the background is the "Harbortown Marina" where I worked on the boat. The entrance is outside the photo on the left.

Fort Pierce Anchorage

Swinging at anchor on the ICW (Inter-Coastal Water). AKA the Indian river. The photo looks north. The bridge in the distance is the north causeway linking the main land on the left to the barrier islands on the right that face the Atlantic.
The causeway has a great two mile long jogging path next to it ending at the beach that I ran three days a week.
Just outside the right edge of the photo is the public boat launch ramp with dinghy dock to get ashore.
Two blocks to the left is the grocery store, West Marine boat store, gas stations, Wendy's etc. The laundry-mat is a dinghy ride south to the South causeway boat ramp and four block east.
