Fort Lauderdale, a reprise

Mega Yachts and Super Yachts
We are back in Fort Lauderdale after 39 mile off shore run from Dinner Key in Miami. During our 5 night stay, accompanied by Gary and Kathy on Gatsby, we continued our exploration of this very wealthy city, the so called America's Venice, due to it's many canals, heavily populated by Mega Yachts and Super Yachts, including Steven Spielberg's monster and one owned by the Russian Oligarch who owns the Brooklyn Nets of the NBA.
Highlights included having lunch in Las Olas with our son in law, Omar and dinner on board with him the next day. We also took the long water taxi ride to Hollywood, Florida where we walked on the broakwalk along the beautiful beach there and enjoyed the local sights. Along with Omar, Gary and Kathy, we took in a 3D IMAX movie on Monarch Butterfly migration - quite interesting. Gary and I taxied to the West Marine 67,000 sf Flagship store to pick up needed parts, which for me, included a macerator pump rebuild kit.
While Sylestial Star and Gatsby were tied up to the New River sea wall, we watched a quite amazing 3 day procession of yachts up and down the New River. Apparently, many were returning from the Palm Beach Boat Show, where they were offered for sale.
Why people own these boats is beyond us. They serve no useful purpose and seem to be a vain projection of ostentatious wealth.
