"GREAT" Harbour Cay Marina
12 March 2016 | Great Harbour Cay
We arrived at Great Harbour Cay Marina on Wednesday, March 2nd and we are still here, but leaving tomorrow.
There is so much to do here - potluck dinners, bbq nights, pizza nights, winter festival and more! We spent a day conching with our dock neighbours, Paula and Ken, Microship, from New Orleans. Ron was able to find 10 conch and Ken taught him how to clean them...it's a yucky job! Gary on Time and Tide took us on a tour of Shark Creek and Turtle Creek through the mangroves out to the oceanside - only possible at high tide. We saw lots of turtles, spotted rays and a few sharks. We biked to the shell beach which at low tide is covered with shells, sand dollars and sea biscuits. We still had a bottle of champagne in the fridge, left from New Years, so we took it to the beach and enjoyed it while looking out over the sand flats and the ocean beyond.
It has been a great 10 days here and we'll miss this marina and all the folks here, but there is a window to travel, and this year they have been few and far apart, so tomorrow we'll head to Bimini. We will likely anchor on the bank and if the weather holds we'll cross to Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach on Monday.
