On the move
21 February 2013 | Highborne Cay and Nassau
Tuesday, February 19th is finally a better day. It is windy still but we headed out under sail for Highborne Cay. Once anchored, Ron headed into the marina store in search of beer, coffee and butter -all things we are out of. He did buy coffee and butter, but couldn't bring himself to spend $65 for a case of beer! We will wait until we are in Nassau.
On Wednesday morning we were up early and on our way. The winds are light and it is a motorsail for 31.69 miles. Just after tying up ay Nassau Harbour Club a Canadian boat came in and tied up beside us. The boat name is Altona and they are from Fifty Point! Ralph and Wendy have been cruising for a few years now and know many of the same people we know at Fifty Point. After happy hour on Muskoka Moon ( Greg and Marian), another boat from Canada, all 10 of us went out for dinner. There was a boat from Mimico (Dorothy and Wyn), Astar from Midland (John and Lois). All of them now leave their boats in Florida for the summer and return each year to the Bahamas. It's tempting!
All of the other boats left on Thursday morning for the Berry Islands. We will spend the day on reprovisioning and sightseeing. We took the local bus to get downtown from the marina - it's quite an experience and we saw a lot of Nassau you wouldn't see otherwise. Tomorrow we will head for Eleuthera and spend a week or two there.
