Oh Canada, eh!
30 July 2013 | Port Colborne, Ontario
Tuesday, July 30th - After having the mast stepped yesterday at First Buffalo River Marina, which turned out to be a very positive experience, we docked at Buffalo City Docks for the night to put the rest of the rigging together. This is a part of Buffalo we have never seen and it is an area that you could easily spend some time - there is lots to see and do. After a bit of cleaning, we headed for Port Colborne, a trip of just 17 miles. The lake is rolly after yesterday's winds, but today the winds are light; too light to sail. We had the easiest check in with Canada Customs which was quite a treat after having to call in to US Border Patrol "EVERY DAY" if we moved the boat. This began in northern New York for some reason we don't understand, after having been in the US on a cruising permit since July 2012 and travelling through some 15-20 states!
We are glad to be back in Canada but it will be short-lived. The easiest route north through Lakes Erie and Huron is on the US side. There are far more towns and harbours and since the winds are generally from the west it puts us on a lee shore. Although we may cross back and forth, our next Canadian stop may be Sault Ste. Marie.
