Family Catch-up
19 August 2013 | Sault Ste. Marie
Friday, August 16th - We arrived in the Soo late in the afternoon and docked at the Bondar Marina along with Kestrel and Knot Listening. The trip took some time - since the water level is high in Lake Superior, they opened all the gates on the dam; this creates quite a current in the river and at times we were only able to travel about 3 knots.
Colleen, Gord and Ben arrived for the weekend just as we docked and we ordered pizza for everyone for dinner. Another sister of Ron's - Carol - also came by for a visit as well as Ryan and Jenn, on their way home from a wedding.
Saturday was a day of more family visits (Charlie, Shirley and Buttons) and a pot luck dinner at Pam's house in the evening where we could catch up with everyone and share our stories of the adventures over past 15 months.
On Sunday, Paul took us, along with Colleen, Gord and Ben for a boat ride through the Soo, Ontario lock and back - a first lock for Gord and Ben - about the 60th for us! Pam and I squeezed in pedicures and a haircut in the afternoon before we had dinner with Mom and Bob and Carol and another great visit. It's been good to see all the family again!
We had a weld let go on the stern pulpit while we crossed the Mackinaw Straits in very rough water, so we are hoping to have that fixed today before we head out again. We should be back in the North Channel where we hope to meet with friends we haven't seen in more than a year!
