Finally...after six weeks out!
10 October 2014 | Annapolis, Maryland
So...here we are in Annapolis after travelling for the past six weeka! I apologize for not keeping up the blog - but no excuses! We left the North Channel on August 28th and quickly travelled through Lakes Huron and Erie. This is all marina hopping - no anchoring. We had just two days delay for weather and arrived in Port Colborne on Sept. 12th. We took all our lake charts home and picked up what we need for the next 6-7 months. After building mast supports, we crossed to Buffalo, stepped the mast and entered the Erie Canal. We travelled quickly through the canal, arriving in Waterford on Ron's 65th birthday on September 23rd. We were greeted by Lockmaster Rick who recognized us from our 35 day delay in 2013! He joined us for drinks on board that evening. After two days in Waterford, we made our way into the Hudson River, had the mast put back up in Catskill and headed east, stopping in Saugerties, Poughkeepsie and Nyack. We had planned to spend a few days in New York, but there was a weather window for the Atlantic so we anchored at Sandy Hook, New Jersey and the next morning travelled to Atlantic City. Winds had kicked up so we stayed a second day before travelling to Cape May, New Jersey. Travelling up Delaware Bay took all of the next day, and not a great trip - it was sunny but very windy. We anchored at Chesapeake City, Maryland for the night. That night and for several days after, we experienced unusually high tides and flooding. On shore, picnic tables were floating and roads were underwater! We spent one night anchored at a really good location on the Magothy River before finally arriving at Annapolis. We were several days before the boat show so expected to get a mooring, but this year they are using all that space for brokerage boats. We found a spot to anchor in Spa Creek amongst hundreds of other boats.
