Nassau...still!
11 January 2015 | Nassau
Just like our trip in 2013, we came to Nassau expecting to stay a day or maybe two...then the weather changed, the winds blew 30 knots and we are still here 5 days later. There is plenty to do and see and we were able to catch up with friends from Virginia once again, Marilyn and Bob on Peaceful Easy Feeling. We've also had a chance to renew acquaintances with the staff here. Hard to believe that they recognized us after a years absence. The man who owns the marina here took 8 young boys in Social Services care out fishing on his 60 foot offshore fishing boat. They came back with 3 large Wahoo and a Mahi Mahi. The boys all swam in the pool while Dudley, who works here and captains the owners boat cleaned the fish. Ron had gone to watch and learn and helped to bag up the fish. Dudley sent him back to the boat with fish for our dinner, he kept a bit for himself but the rest went to the boys shelter to be cooked for their dinner! They were so excited to have caught their dinner! The owner does this a couple of times a month...nice!!
We've spent time walking to the Straw Market and the shops in town and today we took the dinghy over to Paradise Island and the Shops by the Cruiseship Dock. Our plan is to head out tomorrow finally. The winds are still high but should settle by tomorrow night. It looks like only about three good days before the next blow so my guess is we'll stay in the Exuma Land and Sea Park until that passes.
