Small World...in the Abacos
27 March 2015 | Treasure Cay
Tuesday, March 25th - We heard several boats on the radio who were leaving Hopetown, so pulled up anchors and headed out hoping to be lucky enough to get a mooring - and all three of us did! We all needed cash, so walked to the bank, the only one in Hopetown which is open on Tuesday only from 10:00 to 2:00. Well, it happened that the power was off so we were out of luck until next week! While we waited, I spotted Giles Beaudoin riding by on his bike. we haven't seen Giles and Betty since they moved their boat from Fifty Point to the Thousand Islands several years ago. Turns out they rent a cottage in Hopetown every winter for three months. We had a nice visit and catch up with them at their cute little Bahamian Cottage.
There is some bad weather forecast over the next week, so we fueled up for the 21 mile trip to Treasure Cay, a good place to wait. The last hour of the trip was in heavy rain and winds - a real tropical squall. We had to circle outside the harbour until it cleared enough to see our way in the narrow channel. We anchored in the crowded anchorage...it seems everyone had the same idea!
Thursday, March 27th - it is sunny and warm but quite windy. We took Buddy to a sandbar where he could run without a leash - he loves that and even followed us out into the water! We spent the afternoon at the pool and in the evening went to pizza night at the restaurant. This is such a lovely place to be stuck! Life is good! I expect we are here for two or three more days before we move on to Green Turtle Cay.
