Back in the USA
06 April 2015 | Port Canaveral
We began the trip at 8:15 am - it is already extremely hot and there is no wind! The first 53 miles are across the Bahama Bank, just 10-25 feet deep and so clear it's scary! We fished along the way but only caught two barracuda - and tossed them back. Mark, aboard Truant was lucky to catch two Spanish Mackerel. By dark, we were entering the Gulf Stream where the depth drops to over 2000 feet. While we still have very little wind, we do have large ocean swells which continued to build all night long! It wasn't a pleasant crossing but at least we had a full moon to light the way. About 27 hours after leaving Great Sale Cay we entered the harbour at Port Canaveral, just in time to see a nuclear sub heading out. While Ron and I do two hour shifts during the night, sleep was impossible with rocking and rolling of the boat. We took a dock for the night, had showers, and dinner at a great restaurant called Rusty's. The dolphins put on quite a show as we sat at the waters edge. We were back to the boat and in bed by 9:00...exhausted!
