Week 24
26 June 2012 | Tunisia
Jonathan Greenwood
Last week we spent in France dealing with Gallic bureaucracy after our recent address change, but that doesn’t mean that things here in Tunisia ground to a halt. On the contrary, good progress was made with the planking and we are nearing completion of the lower full width planking. A repair to the stem is in progress to allow the fitting of the last of these. However, we have also seen temperatures of up to 40 degrees, that is over 100 Fahrenheit and we have only just started summer here so the time spent on the workshop floor is not without its difficulties. Orders have gone out for various equipment and research continues to find the right parts at the right price. Bulkheads are being repaired and rebuilt, and much time is spent in deciphering the plans and finding problems that might hold us up further down the road. Some small changes to the original interior layout have been decided such as moving bulkhead 14 forward to station 13 to provide a more spacious and comfortable galley. Also we have decided that since both bulkheads 13 and 17 don’t exist, we will build them in as structural bulkheads to provide more stiffness around the shroud base and then apply raised panelling to them to fit with the rest of the original interior.
So all in all, a lot is going on but it is difficult to show this in the photos. I will continue to post them anyway, even if some are a bit repetitive.
More at the end of the week.
