Engine Rebuild
11 November 2012 | Auckland
One of the next tasks to work through is the engine rebuild. Morris removed the head this weekend so it can be taken to a service company to be cleaned and reconditioned. This was quite some task as the injectors were frozen. He did have reservations during the process that the engine may be worse than we once thought, but as it turned out there was only a slight carbon buildup and the cylinders and sleeves look OK. Turned the lower block over by hand several times and all moved smoothly. Next job was to remove the gungy oil.
We estimated that the engine (Perkins 4-236) may have been unrun for around 20 Years or more. The good thing about Perkins Engines is that they still sell the original parts for these old beasties and they are reasonably priced.
