Conception Island

Okay.. this is the most beautiful place so far. Really. It will be hard to beat. This uninhabited island is so small it is not on some maps. And less visited due to weather conditions needing to be just right in order to stay. It is also considered a protected island for nesting turtles and tropic birds. But the waters surrounding it are fair game. And while the island is pristine, it's true beauty was what was underneath the water surrounding it. We were immediately welcomed into the anchorage by a dolphin swimming alongside the boat... something we have not seen since Florida.

On our first day out snorkeling we got several strawberry grouper within minutes. Not long after a 6 ft reef shark came swimming by reminding us that it was his reef, so we hopped back in the dinghy and went to check out another area.

The reefs were all so beautiful and in only about 10-20 ft of water....truly like swimming around in an aquarium. We saw large turtles, rays, sharks and all sorts of fish amongst beautiful coral heads.

On our second morning we were forced out of the water by a large water spout forming very nearby... but not before we were able to get one more grouper. Later we decided to check out the mangrove creeks, we rowed in quietly in hopes of spotting some more sea turtles in their habitat. We spotted one as we paddled in, but were quickly disturbed by some idiots buzzing thru on jet skis from some large motor yacht.

Dolphin and Sea Monkey arrived Sunday evening and after spending the evening on Sea Monkey for Sundowners and Dinner we were nearly convinced to stay one more day.

Sadly, looking at the 5 day forecast we decided to head out early Monday morning for what would be a full day's sail to Cat Island.
