Recently we traveled through the mountains to Finike, a coastal town about 3 hours from our home port of Fethiye.











As we drove up into the mountains, the vistas were varied. From looking down onto patchwork farm fields and then looking up to rock cliffs where goats appeared cantilevered on toppling rocks. At one point, I saw an image of "grey" resting on the ground. I wondered what it was and later discovered it was these leafless trees that look like a Poplar tree. As we continued the climb, the roads became much less traveled with twists, turns and sometimes steep inclines where there were little, if any, shoulders.

I wondered what would keep people in these very small mountain villages that would be covered in snow in a few months and making passage in or out very difficult. How do they earn a modest living here?






































Roadside fountains were scattered regularly, sometimes with people loading jugs full of mountain water into their cars. As we started back down the mountains toward Finike, we passed more farmland with irrigation systems running beside the road.





One of my favourite sites was seeing these children walking to school. In the background, a gentleman is filling a bag full of bread.













Then we passed out of the mist and the Mediterranean Sea came into view, with Finike lazily lying alongside.
