well as the cormant flies it was 1273 we did 1365 as sailed all night back and forth on the lee side of the island nightfall, and still came in at 4:30 am next night if i had REAL radar would have come in the first time or hove to.. came in the dark with huge help of WindRider they stayed up all night to guide us in and it was a maze right down to finding the place we had to tie up to
i almost took out two pilings that were ghost in the channel no lights no reflectors .. i was only a few feet away with winds howling then rain sideways. spinning around trying to see the tugs fishing boats we were to tie behind.. the shore was always so close backing up with not steerage re the windvane then forward into 20 plus knots trying to grab the tug then missing blown off to try again.. back into the winds and darkness waking up in the am looking out it was amazing i did not nail a piling or the shore .. some one is looking out for me takes the helm and steers me safely as i swing in darkness
now out at anchor 48 hours the winds continure to howl no going ashore till things settle as had one close call with my neighbor dragging, they have been here almost a week.. so much crap under the moorage area you not sure what your anchor will grap on to and well diving on an anchor is well.. you cannot see 2 ft in front if you if that murky yuk we get the smell of the fish packing plants every so often..
if it blowing 24 to 28 here can amagine out there,, took dingy over to dock for crew Mark with his gear waves were 3 ft here .. was a wet ride this is dry season hmm
well will chill her for a few months have repairs to sort out then move on Fiji NZ no dates so stay tuned for when i get real internet for pics and post of some awesome places and people
big hugs.. always
Vicky and Chika..
