Port Resolution

I have to admit that being anchored in Port Resolution in eyesight of the active Mt Yasur Volcano, makes you feel pretty nervous with steam continuously coming out of the rocks on the edge of the bay. However, our fears were overcome when we visited the volcano later in the week. Wow, what an awesome spectacle and absolutely a must do on the bucket list for any cruisers visiting Vanuatu.
Along with some of the other cruisers in the the bay we went to a night of music at the John Frum Village where the village musicians play from dusk until dawn. We didn't do the all night thing only staying a bit after cruisers midnight.
As we are nearing Australia after our five year adventure it was time for a clothing and doodad giveaway fest which made lots of the locals happy. In the following days visiting shore it was quite amusing how the clothing got distributed. You may give a bag to one person but they have the non selfish attitude to share it with everyone who was needy in the village. It turned out Stanley the yacht liaison man for Port Resolution was the ace in making sure everyone was included in receiving the much wanted gifts, which also included 40 x 1 kilo bags of rice and dozens of magnifying reading glasses. Half the quantity of rice and glasses came from our German Dusseldorfian sailing buddies Berty and Ursula who left their Catamaran Sempre Due in Tahiti for sale. Berty and Ursula never continued the trip along with us but they were with us in spirit when we distributed all the goods to the needy people.
It's unbelievable how big a smile you can get from giving someone with so little a bag of rice and giving the kids lollipops.
We also tuned our hand at village mechanical repairs, fishing and medical treatments for the locals.
We ended up having a wonderful time and an unforgettable experience in Tanna and also met lots of new cruising friends. After twelve days anchored in the same spot which is a bit of a record for us we left for our next adventure to Lifou in the Loyalty Islands.
