Loving it at Channel Islands Harbor, Oxnard CA
02 October 2013
Just a quick not to let you know we are doing good and where we are. I will update with more of what has been going on the past week.
Update: When we left Monterey we figured it would take us 2 days to get to the Channel Islands meaning up all night for one night. The morning of the 2nd day it was as calm as calm can be, flat as glass. This went on until early afternoon. We then started thinking of we boost up the RPM's we just may get to San Miguel before dark. Well we really needed one more hour and at just about dusk we figured we were going to anchor in the dark. Of course no moon and pitch dark was making us nervous. We started into the bay, still not able to see anything, land or boats. We then decided to head back out with the unfortunate thought that this will probably be the longest night of our lives. We idled as slow as possible to Santa Cruz Island which we did manage to take all night. That morning we anchored at Prisoners Harbor. What a beautiful day, calm seas, nice weather and finally not moving. By that night the wind picked up and blew all the next day and night with gusts up to 30 knots. Thats when we decided to move on to Oxnard.
What a wonderful place Oxnard is. Everyone we met was is so nice. We talked to Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club and they are letting us stay at their dock until Sunday when we leave to go to Marina del Rey. The harbor we are in is called Channel Island Harbor and built around canals so the home owners have their own docks with their boats right in front. Really pretty and we will hate to leave. The Yacht club has a pool and hot tub which we plan to take some time relaxing in them. The Santa Ana winds have arrived and what a sandy mess that is, but I have to say the heat here makes up for it! I must admit, I am finally warm, yahooo! Thanks again for taking this trip with us and please write us back as we love hearing from you all.
