Anniversary , Maho Bay, & Leinster Bay
24 March 2017 | Maho Bay, St.John
Sunny, warm
March 16 - 19th
For our 26th Wedding Anniversary, we celebrated with dinner out at The Terrace Restaurant on St.John overlooking Cruz Bay. Both the food and view were excellent!
We spent a few days in Maho Bay which was highlighted by some great snorkeling as well as a donkey (I initially thought was a large dog until I used the binoculars!) and deer sighting between the beach and roadway. In addition to snorkeling near the beautiful turtles, one afternoon we ended up just above a very large school of fish -probably a thousand or so of 5-6 inches long, silver/white with yellow. We've seen large schools of smaller fish but never fish this size in this large of a school - it was really spectacular. As we turned to head back to the boat, we spotted about a 4' ft long barracuda swimming nearby.
On Saturday, March 18th, we moved to Leinster Bay for a couple days. We hiked to the Anneberg Sugar Mill ruins that sit up the hill and allowing for beautiful views of the bay. We found the history interesting but even more so the use of stone, brick, and coral in the construction of the House. There wasn't much left of the structure but it must have been some house in its day with near 360 views.
Interesting how you are prohibited from anchoring here yet by Sunday evening, there were five boats anchored and two rafted up on a single mooring!
