The World Was Here!

17 May 2012 | 08 55'S:140 06'W, little itty bitty Nuku Hiva
Lisa
This huge cruise ship arrived in Nuku Hiva around 8am yesterday, and was gone by 1pm. I guess they saw all there was to see of the Marquesas. (What a shame!) This same ship was in Portland a few years ago. It travels around the world and each stateroom is like a timeshare-ownership. So people mainly live full-time on it as they travel the world. They take a vote on where their ports of call will be, and how long they will stay there. Interesting way to cruise the world. But I think I like our way better.

John is still fighting the dingy motor problem. Tore it apart again today and created a make-shift gasket out of some neoprene gasket maker kit thingy. It's still acting pretty dodgy. Parts are on order (another carborator and 2 fuel pumps) - hopefully they will be here by the end of next week.

Internet has been great today! Finally! But now our email service isn't working. So it has been a looonnnngggg time since we have been able to check our '@orcinius.com' email - just incase anyone was wondering why we haven't answered them. Looks like it will be a while longer!

Someday, (and I know it's possible), everything is going to all be in working order all at the same time - at least for a while. And I will let everyone know when that day gets here!

I think we are going to finally get a change of scenery tomorrow. We are going to get some fuel in the morning (today was another holiday - second one this week - so couldn't get any gas), then head to another bay - Daniel's bay. There is suppose to be a really nice walk to a waterfall (3rd highest in the world). It takes a couple of hours to get there, but is an easy hike. I am looking forward to getting out and stretching my legs a bit. Then we will probably make our way to a few other bays around Nuku Hiva, and maybe even visit one other nearby island before returning here to get our parts. I am starting to do some research on the Tuamotus - there are 76 of them, so we will have to decide on which few are the most worth while. So far, Rangiroa and Fakarava are on the list. We should be able to fit 1 or 2 more on the list with the few weeks we plan to spend there.

All for now, Lisa
