Fun in Oneata

We arrived at Oneata yesterday. After putting down the anchor we did a drive by sevu sevu with a couple of the local villagers out fishing. They came by in their boat and said "We'll take your sevusevu" (i.e. our kava), and that was about it. Then they offered to take us into their village, which is about a 4 mile trip by boat, to look at tapas. It would cost us a gallon of gas, so we took them up on it, grabbed Bob and Ann, and off we went into the village. This village was very fun and friendly - kids everywhere wanting to come up and say hello, and everyone shouting Bula. A much different feel from the quieter and more reserved village on Namuka. We got a short tour of the village (we didn't make it far with Ann handing out her blow up balls). Then we were invited into one of the huts where the women were hanging out working on some tapas. They were a lively bunch! Lots of laughing with a couple of the gals translating our English back and forth. They had some nice tapas for sale, so we and Charisma both bought what they had. Then John and I put an order in for a longer one (like a banner) with "ORCINIUS" on it. It should be ready later today for us to pick up.

Later in the evening Bob and Ann came over with dinner - a cooked pumpkin filled with fish, vegies, coconut milk and curry. It was delicious! And kind of like a one pot meal! Hard to top that one!

So tonight is probably our last night hanging out together for awhile as Bob and Ann are going to head to Nairai, and we will continue up the Lau group for the remainder of the week. Then we will meet back up with them again in Savusavu so we can all refuel and resupply, then look for a weather window to take us up to the Ringolds. All for now!
