What's in a name? Fitz Hugh Sound

22 July 2010 | Fiz Hugh Sound, July 15-16, 2010
Photo: Does this boat have enough dinghies? A powerboat enjoys a vacation in Codville Lagoon.

We found a schooner in Schooner Retreat so how about a waterfall in Waterfall Inlet? No such luck, nor do we find any oysters in Oyster Bay. But we had a great time exploring these two bays in Fish Egg Inlet, just a short distance north of Schooner Retreat. Fish Egg Inlet is like a lake with water up to the trees at high tide and lots of islands and coves. One thing isn't like a lake: the wind, which howls into the inlet from Fitz Hugh Sound bringing a cool sea air with it.

The next day we sail north under a light breeze and sunshine to Codville Lagoon. At least here I don't expect cod, it was named for someone named Codville. We do find a ring-necked loon, lots of seals and the powerboat with two big dinghies. (perhaps there's a reasonable explanation but it certainly looks strange).
