From Sullivan Bay we motor about 10 miles farther into the Broughton's to Shawl Bay. We had heard that Carol the Bead Lady had moved from Echo Bay to Shawl Bay. Two years ago we bought a beautiful beaded hummingbird from her and enjoyed talking to her so we're looking forward to seeing her again.
When we get to the bay we find Carol's purple float house and bright yellow boat but not her store. We call the Shawl Bay Marina to ask if she's there. When they say yes, we ask if we can tie up just long enough to visit.
Carol is on the dock to take our lines. She gives us hugs then shows us around the quaint marina, introducing us to everyone on the dock. With a reception like that how can we leave? Besides, Shawl Bay is a lot more affordable than Sullilvan Bay. We spend a pleasant afternoon talking with Carol, relaxing in the shaded gathering area (it's a hot day) and eating rhubarb upside down cake baked by Carol in celebration of someone's birthday.
