On our way back down the bay, we stopped to look for mountain goats again and were rewarded with the sight of a whole herd. Seeing a tour boat hovering close to shore, we assumed they were watching for goats too. Steve called them to tell them about the herd.
“We’re watching some bears now,” came the reply.
Had we heard wrong? Maybe they’d said birds. Surely bears wouldn’t be on the steep and rocky shore of Gloom! What would they eat? But there they were, a mother and three cubs, as agile as the goats and feeding on a goat carcass.
