No more counting down.... time to leave the nest.
25 November 2013 | North Haven Crown Marina
Terry / weather is brilliant!
The time has come to finally dip my toes in the water and leave with Dave on the first part of the adventure of a lifetime. Although this is only the shakedown cruise, we'll be gone for around 3 weeks, so it'll certainly test my intestinal fortitude and my intestinal tract. We did have the first pod of dolphins in the bow wave, so it was a great start.
We actually leave on the big water very early tomorrow, but in the meantime we're at the North Haven Marina for the evening and after a shower and slipping into my jammies and with a pending dinner of pasties, chocolate and Doctor Who, it should be a brilliant night because I'm knackered!
"Knackered? After just one day? Seriously?" I hear! Well yes and here's why....
We had had two damaged clears on the boat that were being repaired by a place not too far away from where we are and we needed them before we could leave tomorrow, so it was fairly important that we collect them. So Dave, in his ultimate wisdom decided that, because the car was back at the GIYC, it would be completely marvelous to get the folding bikes out and pick them up, tying them to his back. After all, it really wasn't far....uh... yeah.
It turned out that the repair place was about 5 kilometres form us, and this was only the second time I had ridden a bike for around 30 years, and for some reason the bike doesn't like to go at a leisurely pace. Plus there was a head wind, plus it was around 29 degrees, plus, for some reason my helmet was too tight. Ohhhhhh the fun!!!!!
Actually as it turned out that getting there sucked but it wasn't too bad on the way back. We cycled all the way back along the foreshore cycle track, we had a tail wind and we stopped at Largs Bay kiosk for a really nice ice cream cone.
Now it's relaxation time. Catch you all later. :)
