New Beginnings
10 August 2008 | North Haven, ME
After many months of sailing to get to upper Maine it was now time to head West and then South. Today was our first day traveling in that direction.
For me, a certain amount of emotion set in like the blanket of fog that was wrapped around us most of the day. Something about heading a new direction stimulates my thinking. While our sights are now set on the long trip ahead, we are aware that the real joy is in the journey, not necessarily the destination.
Our route today took us through the Deer Island Thorofare and the community of Stonington. Then through the Fox Islands Thorofare on our way to our destination of North Haven, where we picked up a mooring for the night.
Some of the highlights for the day had to be the rock ledge where we saw perhaps ten seals with calves, the lobster trap that got wrapped around the keel, the sailboat that nearly rammed us in the fog, and best of all the peace and quiet that we had in the anchorage at the end of the day.
