On a mooring buoy in Bourg des Saintes an island South of Guadeloupe

We left Nelson's dockyard early morning of the 2nd January 2012 to sail down the West side of the island of Guadeloupe. We anchored overnight in a bay called Deshaies which was about 5 miles down the West coast of Guadeloupe. The anchorage was lovely, but very windy, as the wind came rushing down two valleys right in to the anchorage.

The next day we continued our sail down to the group of island just South of Guadeloupe called the ILES DES SAINTES.

This sail was very interesting with the wind changing direction by 180 degrees and a change of wind speed from 6 knots to 32 knots, back to 3 knot and then increasing again up to 29 knots. As luck would have it, our last 4 hours of sailing was with the wind directly from the direction we wanted to head for. So a beat to the anchorage!!!

We have picked up a mooring buoy in the bay of Bourg des Saintes, and went ashore to clear in through customs. This is a French island and they have adopted the internet as a very simple customs clearance process. So whilst having a beer, we and Karacool completed the form on the PC. A very quick process indeed.

The island is very small and compact a bit like an island you would find in South Brittany but much warmer.

We have no WI-FI here so pictures will follow soon.
