You just never know where or when you will run into nice people. I met Anne and Bob in Kelsey Bay. I had decided to cut my Inside Passage trip short for a number of reasons and needed a ride back to Nanaimo, B.C. These folks were kind enough to offer me a ride all the way to Nanaimo, a 2.5 hour drive! I cannot thank them enough for their generosity! If you happen to find yourself in Kelsey Bay stop by the gift store at the docks and say hello to Anne. Or if you happen to be in need of a storage facility for your boat or a vehicle Bob is the man!

Here is a photo of the bear I encountered the other day before becoming pinned down on Hardwicke Island. Unfortunately I couldn't grab the DSLR, however, the point-and-shoot did just fine given the proximity. There are more pics in the gallery.

Well, the last three days have been interesting. Just before paddling through Wellbore Channel I spotted a bear on the shore. I was able to cruise in for a closer look and get some pics which I'll post soon. The rest of the day was glorious, calm seas and stunning scenery. It wouldn't last. Late in the afternoon the wind picked up and forced me to make camp early on Hardwicke Island. I had hoped to make it to Yorke Island. Anyway the wind howled all night long. I thought the tent might fold under the pressure. The marine radio had wonderful news the next morning--gail-force winds for the next two days. I could'nt move. Day and night the wind continued its assault with heavy seas. Finally this morning at 4-something when the tent stopped shaking I peered out to find calm seas and just the hint of a breeze. Up and at 'em! I rushed to pack and paddle across Johnstone Strait and backtracked a mile or two along the coast to Kelsey Bay where I remain for the moment.
