So, haven't figured out which way to head after my detour. Anyway, I'll take this opportunity to post a couple of pictures (again on separate posts).
Part of why I had to detour for resupply was that I ran out of CLIF BARS. Did you know you can live on them for long periods of time? Well you can. Thanks Misty!!!

Wow, another week has passed. I left Powell River and ended up on an island adjacent to Refuge Cove. From there, I paddled on to the Rendezvous Islands and camped on the northern tip (actually at high tide a small islet is severed from the northern tip) of the north island. There are three Rendezvous Islands. Probably the best campsite yet.
The following day I had to time my passage through Yuculta Rapids before Big Bay on Stuart Island. I'll post a picture later showing the rapids. It would not be possible to get through them at times other than slack. I spent two nights in Big Bay and timed my departure for additional rapids: Gillard Passage and Dent Rapids. Smooth sailing from there...actually got the sail going for a bit! Made good distance with the ebb all the way to Cordero Islands and camped on a tiny piece of granite. I think the seals were upset because they usually wile away the hours on the slabs of granite.
Now I'm at a crossroad. I had to take a detour down Mayne Passage to resupply but no longer have the tide in my favor. You can only put off joining Johnstone Strait for so long. Johnstone is the main thoroughfare for all major traffic and usually specializes in northwest winds with an ebb tide northward. Translated, that means opposing forces and rough seas. Not to mention no reasonable camping for a pretty long stretch. I'll probably backtrack and continue on my original course which delays the inevitable.

If you should awaken in the middle of the night to see two yellow eyes staring at you from the dark...do not immediately assume its a bear. In fact it might be TWO bears - winking at each other. Sleep well!
I had my own run in with wildlife last evening when I got stung by a wasp while playing basketball (me playing, not the wasp). I mention that just so you don't feel all alone facing the dangers of the great outdoors...
See ya next month - stay safe! SD
As with many industries logging has seen a decline. Many of the coastal communities were founded on logging and mining as well as fishing. Now pulp mills are closing (one in Nanaimo is closed and another here in Powell River is laying off a large percentage of workers. I will post more knowledgeable commentary once I learn more of the history.

Hot and Humid here in NJ. Blueberries, fresh homegrown corn and little neck clams were the favorties for yesterday's Independence Day celebration.
How's your shoulders and wrists doing? What a fantastic adventure your doing. Does it get dark at night there? How cold is it in the PM hours? Seen any Grizzlies or Humpbacks yet?
Take care,
AG
