Kayak Sailing
07/07/2008, Cordero Channel

Had the sail up the other day. When winds are out of the southeast and waves in check I fly the sail! It helps to give you a break from the constant paddling.

Thanks again to the folks at Wildwasser who provided the sail and a couple of deck bags for the trip! The sail is awesome and everything in the deck bags has remained dry despite seas crashing over the deck!

Yuculta Rapids
07/07/2008, Gillard Passage

After timing the run through Yuculta Rapids at slack I pulled into Big Bay for the night...actually two nights on account of weather-heavy fog and rain--yummy. Anyway I was able to take a walk around the bend and view the rapids that appear when it is not slack. This is NOT funny stuff. Huge whirlpools grabbed this telephone-pole sized log and flipped it on end then sucked it down. Five minutes later it popped up a few hundred yards away. Definite attention grabber. To round out the mix throw in a few giant eddies, overfalls and actual rapids and you are ready to rock and roll.

Log Boom
07/07/2008, Along the Way

Passed my first log boom and paddled right up for a close shot. You can hear these tugs chugging along for miles it seems. They don't appear to be moving at a distance but then you realize they have left you clear down channel.
