Puerto de Mogan

Another new month – they sure are flying!
Wednesday we caught the local bus to Puerto Rico & had a wander, searched the local chandlery & had a great lunch. It’s amazing how many tourists are here on Gran Canaria – lying on sun lounges, swimming, sightseeing & walking the streets everywhere. For such dry & desolate islands they sure get the visitors. I guess it helps not to have any rainfall either! Due to uncomfortable conditions (lots of wind & big swell) at Anfi del Mar we decided to head down to Punta Taozo for a night or two. This isn’t the most glamorous anchorage – also known as Puerto Cementero – Port for Cement Works. It was well sheltered though, had beautiful clear water & a lovely small beach that was always occupied by locals & a handful of tourists.
Thursday was job day – washing, making water, polishing stainless steel, hatches & more from our ARC list. We had a drinks & a lovely dinner with Jeremy & Susie to top off a great day.
Friday was a quiet day. We went into Arguineguin to get the most important provision – beer! The rest of the day was spent swimming & reading while we watched the crew on ‘Joy of Shamrock Quay’ work hard polishing & cleaning!
Today we went our separate ways. We headed back to Puerto de Mogan ready for a sail to Teneriffe tomorrow (weather permitting). Jeremy & Susie are heading north to Las Palmas marina for their preparation for the ARC+ - leaving Las Palmas on November 10, sailing to Cape Verdes & then across the Atlantic to Rodney Bay, St Lucia. We will catch up with them again next Saturday & say farewell until we catch up with them in the Caribbean. A quiet afternoon on Puerto de Mogan for us – just some grocery shopping!
