We are back in Seattle

It feels like home. Of course we are not in Silshole. Maybe we will be, someday, but there is a list and we are on it. In the meantime we are at Bainbridge Island Marina.

The dinghy holds air again

It wasn't very nice of the bear to tear the fabric across a seam. We were worried that we couldn't patch it but tried anyway. The glue had a job to do and it did it!

A Grizzly Bear damaged our dinghy

We were visiting the Anan Bear Observatory south of Wrangell. It is one of the best places to visit in all of SE Alaska BECAUSE it has bears. But (as we learned) there is a dark side to this bear concentration. And of course, there is a story to tell.

Moving On

"No matter where you go, there you are" (unknown reference). By now we have been there and done that. Most recently that included Cannery Cove on Admiralty Island. The photo shows the quiet grandeur of the setting with Ron and Suzie's boat SV Tango in the foreground. It has been like that for the last [...]

We are in Hoonah, SE Alaska now

We got something resembling a high pressure ridge so we moved expeditously across the Gulf of Alaska. The crossing took three days and weather stayed as forecast. That was a very good thing. The weather changes in the far north far more rapidly and dramatically than we ever experienced in the more southern [...]

Crossing the Gulf of Alaska

We are still in Seward, AK. Now that spring has come, why not start south?

Eating strange fruit and liking it

I like eating. So does Karen. We've been doing it for a long time, at least 3 times per day. You would think that we had at least tasted most of the good basic fruits in the world. You would think that, but you would be wrong. How can this be?

Yesterday we took our dinghy up a jungle river and went ashore. We worked our way to a road where the fruit was literally falling in front of us as we walked. We passed by a roadside stand that was selling Rambutan. It is a red bristly round fruit that we had never tried. One sample was enough to sell the whole bunch that was being offered. It tastes like a grape...but chewier. I didn't eat the seed, but Karen tells me that tastes something like an almond. Our hiking companions from "SV Sweetie" picked up some ripe Passion Fruit and talked us into eating that. It was tart but very tasty. Today Karen returned with the girls in the anchorage and she picked up Star Fruit, Green oranges, Papaya, and Sweet Potatoes. It's all very good and very strange to our normal eating habits.

We have moved to the marina where tomorrow our sailmaker will start repairing our mainsail....at least that is the plan. For the night we have a mooring buoy and that is a good thing because the weather is forecast to get stormy and windy for a few days. Maybe tomorrow we can move to the visitor's dock, although right now there is another boat there and there isn't quite space for us.
