We are back in Seattle

It feels like home. Of course we are not in Silshole. Maybe we will be, someday, but there is a list and we are on it. In the meantime we are at Bainbridge Island Marina.

The dinghy holds air again

It wasn't very nice of the bear to tear the fabric across a seam. We were worried that we couldn't patch it but tried anyway. The glue had a job to do and it did it!

A Grizzly Bear damaged our dinghy

We were visiting the Anan Bear Observatory south of Wrangell. It is one of the best places to visit in all of SE Alaska BECAUSE it has bears. But (as we learned) there is a dark side to this bear concentration. And of course, there is a story to tell.

Moving On

"No matter where you go, there you are" (unknown reference). By now we have been there and done that. Most recently that included Cannery Cove on Admiralty Island. The photo shows the quiet grandeur of the setting with Ron and Suzie's boat SV Tango in the foreground. It has been like that for the last [...]

We are in Hoonah, SE Alaska now

We got something resembling a high pressure ridge so we moved expeditously across the Gulf of Alaska. The crossing took three days and weather stayed as forecast. That was a very good thing. The weather changes in the far north far more rapidly and dramatically than we ever experienced in the more southern [...]

Crossing the Gulf of Alaska

We are still in Seward, AK. Now that spring has come, why not start south?

A funny story

We are converging on completion of our boat refurbishment project. Yesterday we got back our master stateroom, which has for almost 2 months been buried in mounds of work in process and parts of the boat that had to be removed to gain access to work areas. Today, our workmen were off our boat attending to other boats or to work still in their shop.

I left the boat to order some parts. While I was away, Karen was washing the boat. Somehow in that process, she decided she needed to get off the boat and onto the dock. We have a tiny step that helps with that process. Somehow Karen stepped on the far outside part of that step and it gave way. She went all the way into the river. She swam around the boat and got out onto our swim step. (The ladder is unusable now due to an ongoing repair). There is no way to get back directly onto the dock. She could have swum to shore. Anyway, after dragging herself aboard like a wet dog, she decided to gather some dry clothes and go take a shower ashore, which she did. To get to the shower, you have to cross the boatyard, where we have lots of friends who are working on their boats. Along the way across the yard, she met John and Hether from SV Evergreen and Anne from SV Chrisma. No one noticed that she was soaking wet! Karen didn't mention it either. Until this posting I am the only person that knows of Karen's mishap!

Anyway she finished her shower and returned to the boat to tell me what had happened. She had to tell me because I would have detected the faint odor of swim step goose poop and asked questions!

We are both showered now and anticipate another happy night together in our big bed.

The picture is a waterfall we stopped to see while visiting Taranga with friends Debbie and Keith Clausen from Hamilton.
