We are back in Seattle

It feels like home. Of course we are not in Silshole. Maybe we will be, someday, but there is a list and we are on it. In the meantime we are at Bainbridge Island Marina.

The dinghy holds air again

It wasn't very nice of the bear to tear the fabric across a seam. We were worried that we couldn't patch it but tried anyway. The glue had a job to do and it did it!

A Grizzly Bear damaged our dinghy

We were visiting the Anan Bear Observatory south of Wrangell. It is one of the best places to visit in all of SE Alaska BECAUSE it has bears. But (as we learned) there is a dark side to this bear concentration. And of course, there is a story to tell.

Moving On

"No matter where you go, there you are" (unknown reference). By now we have been there and done that. Most recently that included Cannery Cove on Admiralty Island. The photo shows the quiet grandeur of the setting with Ron and Suzie's boat SV Tango in the foreground. It has been like that for the last [...]

We are in Hoonah, SE Alaska now

We got something resembling a high pressure ridge so we moved expeditously across the Gulf of Alaska. The crossing took three days and weather stayed as forecast. That was a very good thing. The weather changes in the far north far more rapidly and dramatically than we ever experienced in the more southern [...]

Crossing the Gulf of Alaska

We are still in Seward, AK. Now that spring has come, why not start south?

We have returned to our precious home afloat. It is good to be back. Jet Lag has me writing this late at night. Our flight was long, but considering the distance, miraculously quick. My tush hurts from sitting in an airline seat so long though.

Australia has warmed up since we left and there are North winds. Yay! Recall that when we left the southerly winds were unrelenting and that was a problem since we need to go south. After a little work on the fuel system, we can head south to our big Puget Sound Cruising Club rendevous in Port Stevens (near Sidney). We brought a new Raycor dual fuel filter assembly back with us that should resolve the engine problems we had on the last passage. And we brought a new AIS antenna splitter to resolve a VHF range problem.

Our Seattle visit was wonderful, thanks to the many friends we got to visit. We want to extend particular thanks to Mik and Christina (SV Split Crow) who gave us a wonderful base of operations.

it was also great to return to our home aboard Panta Rhei. It's a really great home and it is located where summer is just beginning. The picture shows the rest of the Nelson family at the wedding. The wonderful thing about weddings is that we get to see the whole family, which includes our other two sons, Brett (next to mom) and John.
