In the Gatun locks at the front of the lock out to the Atlantic, suspended in the center with 2 lines forward and 2 lines aft
5am and the Pilot is aboard (black shirt). We are on the west side of the Panama Canal and waiting for our turn to start the passage through the canal. The pilot has his own radio and phone to communicate with the canal control authority. AIS is required for boats over 65 feet but was waived for SV Talofa. That is consistent with the way things are in panama. Rules are really suggestions. Notice that it is dark, windy, and overcast.

There is an inflatable bed set over a skylight for the main salon. It was a perfect spot for crew to catch a 10 minute nap. Karen and I spent the night on this bed and awoke to howler monkeys moaning followed by a light rain in our faces.

Roni keeps a bow watch. This is a 97 foot vessel and the view from the helm is a little sketchy. A forward watch is kept at all times.
There is a tourist boat that will go through the Miraflores locks with us and then turn around and go back through the locks to Panama City (La Playita marina where we are anchored)
