We are back in Seattle

It feels like home. Of course we are not in Silshole. Maybe we will be, someday, but there is a list and we are on it. In the meantime we are at Bainbridge Island Marina.

The dinghy holds air again

It wasn't very nice of the bear to tear the fabric across a seam. We were worried that we couldn't patch it but tried anyway. The glue had a job to do and it did it!

A Grizzly Bear damaged our dinghy

We were visiting the Anan Bear Observatory south of Wrangell. It is one of the best places to visit in all of SE Alaska BECAUSE it has bears. But (as we learned) there is a dark side to this bear concentration. And of course, there is a story to tell.

Moving On

"No matter where you go, there you are" (unknown reference). By now we have been there and done that. Most recently that included Cannery Cove on Admiralty Island. The photo shows the quiet grandeur of the setting with Ron and Suzie's boat SV Tango in the foreground. It has been like that for the last [...]

We are in Hoonah, SE Alaska now

We got something resembling a high pressure ridge so we moved expeditously across the Gulf of Alaska. The crossing took three days and weather stayed as forecast. That was a very good thing. The weather changes in the far north far more rapidly and dramatically than we ever experienced in the more southern [...]

Crossing the Gulf of Alaska

We are still in Seward, AK. Now that spring has come, why not start south?

Headed South

We've disconnected from the dock. It was difficult. We've really enjoyed the air conditioning and broadband internet. That's tough to leave behind. But the holding tanks were filling up and we were running out of potable water. So it was time to leave. We can come back. Our direction now is south where friends are rendezvousing for a 4th of July celebration in Playa el Burro. On the way back we'll try to stop at Mulege. The wind prevented that on the way north. To get cool now, we have to swim. But it turns out that the marina makes the waterline dirty, so there is something to clean when we are swimming. And Karen still wants me to work on the sink drain to try to extract some more fish parts. And there is always the prop and shaft to clean. The bottom paint we had put on in Mazatlan is working pretty well.

We are traveling in company with SV Safety Cat (Nick and Andrea and Pari), but we have a dinner invitation aboard SV Island Bound (Bill and Kat Russel) this evening. They caught 7 fish today (Dorado, I think) and are having a number of the boats in the anchorage over for dinner.

It's nice to be on the move again. The picture is a lobster that had died where we were snorkeling. I couldn't find a live one to take a picture of (or eat). I'll keep trying though.
