We are back in Seattle

It feels like home. Of course we are not in Silshole. Maybe we will be, someday, but there is a list and we are on it. In the meantime we are at Bainbridge Island Marina.

The dinghy holds air again

It wasn't very nice of the bear to tear the fabric across a seam. We were worried that we couldn't patch it but tried anyway. The glue had a job to do and it did it!

A Grizzly Bear damaged our dinghy

We were visiting the Anan Bear Observatory south of Wrangell. It is one of the best places to visit in all of SE Alaska BECAUSE it has bears. But (as we learned) there is a dark side to this bear concentration. And of course, there is a story to tell.

Moving On

"No matter where you go, there you are" (unknown reference). By now we have been there and done that. Most recently that included Cannery Cove on Admiralty Island. The photo shows the quiet grandeur of the setting with Ron and Suzie's boat SV Tango in the foreground. It has been like that for the last [...]

We are in Hoonah, SE Alaska now

We got something resembling a high pressure ridge so we moved expeditously across the Gulf of Alaska. The crossing took three days and weather stayed as forecast. That was a very good thing. The weather changes in the far north far more rapidly and dramatically than we ever experienced in the more southern [...]

Crossing the Gulf of Alaska

We are still in Seward, AK. Now that spring has come, why not start south?

Headed further north

Larry Nelson
We have left the Village at Bahia de Los Angeles and moved north about 7 nm. We are staged for a 40 nm passage to Puerto Refugio at the north end of Angel de la Guarda. It is a popular anchorage for boats that make it this far north. Unfortunately, we are working against Northwest winds...right on the nose. So we will stage the passage to take advantage of the lighter winds we associate with the morning hours. Winds are forecast to reach 18 knots. That can build some significant seas and those slow our passage. La Griega (where we are anchored now) is the last anchorage that is sheltered from the northwest winds. We have a double anchor set and no chubascos in sight or hurricane warnings at this time. We'll read, swim, take a little hike, maybe float in the lagoon and eat a great chicken lunch/dinner. We are by ourselves tonight and it is due to stay just this lonely for the next several days.

We're having a little trouble with the gen set. The oil temperature sensor is shutting down the gen set when the engine is cold. When the engine heats up, things are fine. But it is hard to heat it up when you can't keep it running. So I tried to bypass the sensor. The book says they protect by opening...so I shorted out the switch. No joy. I still have the same problem. What is happening? It's a mystery that I need to solve.
