We are back in Seattle

It feels like home. Of course we are not in Silshole. Maybe we will be, someday, but there is a list and we are on it. In the meantime we are at Bainbridge Island Marina.

The dinghy holds air again

It wasn't very nice of the bear to tear the fabric across a seam. We were worried that we couldn't patch it but tried anyway. The glue had a job to do and it did it!

A Grizzly Bear damaged our dinghy

We were visiting the Anan Bear Observatory south of Wrangell. It is one of the best places to visit in all of SE Alaska BECAUSE it has bears. But (as we learned) there is a dark side to this bear concentration. And of course, there is a story to tell.

Moving On

"No matter where you go, there you are" (unknown reference). By now we have been there and done that. Most recently that included Cannery Cove on Admiralty Island. The photo shows the quiet grandeur of the setting with Ron and Suzie's boat SV Tango in the foreground. It has been like that for the last [...]

We are in Hoonah, SE Alaska now

We got something resembling a high pressure ridge so we moved expeditously across the Gulf of Alaska. The crossing took three days and weather stayed as forecast. That was a very good thing. The weather changes in the far north far more rapidly and dramatically than we ever experienced in the more southern [...]

Crossing the Gulf of Alaska

We are still in Seward, AK. Now that spring has come, why not start south?

We've started our passage to San Carlos

Larry Nelson
This morning we left the south end of Isla Angel de la Guarda enroute to an anchorage at the south end of Tiburon Island. We had a south west wind most of the passage but it was not enough to sail, just enough to speed the passage under power. Our route takes us between the Midriff Islands, a group of islands that "joins" Baha to the Mainland. The water on the passage and in the anchorages was exceptionally clear. I could see the anchor chain all the way to the bottom in 34 feet of water. Of course we went swimming! We also went ashore and saw turtle nests and trails to and from the water. This is complete wilderness so we are able to see signs of their "event" undisturbed by any human signs. We didn't see the turtles though, just turtle trails.

Before we left, we had a "fish dinner" with Ponderosa (a Grouper that SV Just a Minute" speared and then gave to us). It was a delight that was reminiscent of many others together when we were in Alaska and Canada. Now we are headed apart again...SV Panta Rhei toward Central America and SV Ponderosa home via some as yet undetermined route. We've encouraged them to go via Hawaii and to spend some time there before going on to Alaska...then to Seattle. But we don't know yet what their plan will actually be.

The picture is of a lecture for boats heading toward Central America.
