We are back in Seattle

It feels like home. Of course we are not in Silshole. Maybe we will be, someday, but there is a list and we are on it. In the meantime we are at Bainbridge Island Marina.

The dinghy holds air again

It wasn't very nice of the bear to tear the fabric across a seam. We were worried that we couldn't patch it but tried anyway. The glue had a job to do and it did it!

A Grizzly Bear damaged our dinghy

We were visiting the Anan Bear Observatory south of Wrangell. It is one of the best places to visit in all of SE Alaska BECAUSE it has bears. But (as we learned) there is a dark side to this bear concentration. And of course, there is a story to tell.

Moving On

"No matter where you go, there you are" (unknown reference). By now we have been there and done that. Most recently that included Cannery Cove on Admiralty Island. The photo shows the quiet grandeur of the setting with Ron and Suzie's boat SV Tango in the foreground. It has been like that for the last [...]

We are in Hoonah, SE Alaska now

We got something resembling a high pressure ridge so we moved expeditously across the Gulf of Alaska. The crossing took three days and weather stayed as forecast. That was a very good thing. The weather changes in the far north far more rapidly and dramatically than we ever experienced in the more southern [...]

Crossing the Gulf of Alaska

We are still in Seward, AK. Now that spring has come, why not start south?

Copper Canyon Trip

07 November 2011
Larry Nelson
We are midway through our trip to the copper Canyon and right now we are at the Posada Barranca de Mirador Hotel located on the rim of the canyon. Our view from our room includes Tarahumara indian cave houses, a zip line, suspension bridges for trail walking for brave souls, and of course the bottom of a very big canyon. Its windy and cold...yes cold. We have long pants and long sleeved shirts and fleece coats on. To get here we rode an executive first class bus from Mazatlan (real nice way to travel) to Las Moches. We took a cab from Las Moches to El Fuerte where there is a history that includes Zorro. Really. He visited us there! And we ate langustino....large river crayfish that are a speciality of the area. Then we went to a horse ranch where we rode horses and took a road trip down to the base of the canyon to a town called Urique. The road down was labeled at the top with a highway sign that says "This is a high risk road". In Mexico this is important to notice. It was a terrible road and hazardous to even look down. It was rough (basically over bolders) and had infinite drop offs and was less than one lane wide. But we survived and it was a wonderous experience. The tarahumara indians are everywhere and we have met them and visited them in their homes.
