We are back in Seattle

It feels like home. Of course we are not in Silshole. Maybe we will be, someday, but there is a list and we are on it. In the meantime we are at Bainbridge Island Marina.

The dinghy holds air again

It wasn't very nice of the bear to tear the fabric across a seam. We were worried that we couldn't patch it but tried anyway. The glue had a job to do and it did it!

A Grizzly Bear damaged our dinghy

We were visiting the Anan Bear Observatory south of Wrangell. It is one of the best places to visit in all of SE Alaska BECAUSE it has bears. But (as we learned) there is a dark side to this bear concentration. And of course, there is a story to tell.

Moving On

"No matter where you go, there you are" (unknown reference). By now we have been there and done that. Most recently that included Cannery Cove on Admiralty Island. The photo shows the quiet grandeur of the setting with Ron and Suzie's boat SV Tango in the foreground. It has been like that for the last [...]

We are in Hoonah, SE Alaska now

We got something resembling a high pressure ridge so we moved expeditously across the Gulf of Alaska. The crossing took three days and weather stayed as forecast. That was a very good thing. The weather changes in the far north far more rapidly and dramatically than we ever experienced in the more southern [...]

Crossing the Gulf of Alaska

We are still in Seward, AK. Now that spring has come, why not start south?

Suzie is ordering "sex on the beach" and Karen is kissing a Sea Lion

I got it on film (or at least the digital equivalent of film). No photoshopping this one. Karen now needs to be checked for sea lice, I think. When girls start partying seriously, this kind of thing can happen. Her only excuse was that it was late at night and she had been drinking (water she said) so he looked pretty good. At least he looked more available than Larry. Larry was talking computers with Ron. Can you blame her? And while we are talking about stepping out, I should report that Susie ordered "Sex on the Beach", which she said was a local drink. Should Ron believe that?

So what is there to party about? We are celebrating having visitors in town for the New Year (Ron and Susie Bauman). Also, today we are running the engine for break in. So far we have accumulated 4.5 hours. We'll get it to 50 hours while we are still here so they can retorque the head. But wait...there is more! The vang got reinstalled and the gen set got its exhaust gasket replaced and the alternator seal repaired. Also, the sink drain for the water maker now works. And while all this was being done, Ron showed Larry a new back up program for the computers. both are freshly backed up now.

So, things are looking up. The only problem is that Karen has herring breath.
