We are back in Seattle

It feels like home. Of course we are not in Silshole. Maybe we will be, someday, but there is a list and we are on it. In the meantime we are at Bainbridge Island Marina.

The dinghy holds air again

It wasn't very nice of the bear to tear the fabric across a seam. We were worried that we couldn't patch it but tried anyway. The glue had a job to do and it did it!

A Grizzly Bear damaged our dinghy

We were visiting the Anan Bear Observatory south of Wrangell. It is one of the best places to visit in all of SE Alaska BECAUSE it has bears. But (as we learned) there is a dark side to this bear concentration. And of course, there is a story to tell.

Moving On

"No matter where you go, there you are" (unknown reference). By now we have been there and done that. Most recently that included Cannery Cove on Admiralty Island. The photo shows the quiet grandeur of the setting with Ron and Suzie's boat SV Tango in the foreground. It has been like that for the last [...]

We are in Hoonah, SE Alaska now

We got something resembling a high pressure ridge so we moved expeditously across the Gulf of Alaska. The crossing took three days and weather stayed as forecast. That was a very good thing. The weather changes in the far north far more rapidly and dramatically than we ever experienced in the more southern [...]

Crossing the Gulf of Alaska

We are still in Seward, AK. Now that spring has come, why not start south?

Priced out of Quepos new marina

22 February 2012 | Punta Quepos, Costa Rica
Larry Nelson
Quepos is a town about 30 nm south of Los Suenos where we were last night. It has a new marina, but no town to speak of...certainly nothing like the resort community around Marina Los Suenos. So we called and inquired about a slip for the night. Sure...no problem... $3.50 per foot per night. So we asked about anchoring and bringing our dinghy in for dinner. Sure, again no problem. $50 USD for a single landing. So we moved south and found a better place. Its a little rollier, but the water is clear and 85F and there are reefs nearby to snorkel on and look for fish. We spent too much on dinner last night anyway. Tonight we'll FEAST aboard. I think we are having fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fresh brocolli, fresh milk, and of course our special Margaritas.

You've got to have choices. The fact that yesterday I got fuel at Los Suenos means I don't have to get fuel today at Quepos. Actually, where we are is a lot nicer. Really!

We did see a ketch rigged sailboat inside the Quepos marina that had to be over 100 feet. The main mast had 5 spreaders and the mizzen mast had 4 spreaders. This area in Costa Rica has lots of quietly situated little resorts all along the shoreline. I'm sure it is very nice. We were thinking of doing a quick land trip, but that went away with the dinghy and dock fees.

The picture is of the cruisers club house in Golfito.
