SV Panta Rhei Retirement Trip
Arrived at Rangiroa
Larry Nelson
24 May 2012 | Enroute to Rangiroa, Tuamotos, French Polynesia
Smoooooooth water. I like this place already. We arrived at "almost dawn". Of course at the same time we arrived, a thunderstorm arrived. Then Karen had trouble getting the windlass to work. The thunderstorm dumped a ton of water on her while she worked. Larry was having his own trouble with the navigation program which suddenly turned off our arrival waypoint. It would not let us turn it back on. All of this happens while we are acquiring and transiting the range into the lagoon. Oh yes and the wind moved up to about 25 knots.

The range itself is BEAUTIFUL. It is a double set of green lights that flash to help you find the range. They really work. And since they did correspond to the gps/map, confidence soared. Its a good thing it did because it was awfully dark. It got light just as we were transiting to the second range for the navigation around the coral blocking the path to the anchorage. Fortunately, the path in is deep and wide. Its easy with a gps map that you trust.

So now the question....to make coffee or to go back to bed? Such decisions.
