We are back in Seattle
It feels like home. Of course we are not in Silshole. Maybe we will be, someday, but there is a list and we are on it. In the meantime we are at Bainbridge Island Marina.

The dinghy holds air again
It wasn't very nice of the bear to tear the fabric across a seam. We were worried that we couldn't patch it but tried anyway. The glue had a job to do and it did it!

We were visiting the Anan Bear Observatory south of Wrangell. It is one of the best places to visit in all of SE Alaska BECAUSE it has bears. But (as we learned) there is a dark side to this bear concentration. And of course, there is a story to tell.

We are still in Seward, AK. Now that spring has come, why not start south?
Leaving Opua for New Caledonia
Our route north doesn't look easy. There is a region of gale force wind and 5-6 meter seas that we will transit shortly after passing Cape Rienga. The reason we are doing this is that the wind will give us a necessary boost North and probably a little west so that we can pass the next storm to the south of us. We need desperately to make it to 25 degrees South Latitude in the next 5 days. So, why, you might ask are you "threading this weather needle"? Well ... it seems that in winter in NZ you don't get to choose whether or not to do this sort of transit. You just get to choose which one. Our visas expire July 31. We need to get moving. We are pretty confident this won't kill us. It will however probably make us sick. Oh, well.
