Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

29 October 2011 | Bundaberg

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

More work and Maintenance!

Nanette
Who said that cruising was sitting back drinking long cool drinks and admiring the passing scene????? How wrong is that, the reality is hard work, particularly in this season up here. The humidity is building daily towards the wet SW season. Thank goodness that we leave very soon for the other side if the Malay peninsula and into the South China Sea, where it will be dry SW season that side.
We have worked every day here in Rebak, that is until the heat overcomes us, and then we retreat inside to the air con. If anyone is coming up this way AIR CON is vital, there is not a yacht without it. It is also much cheaper to have one fitted in Thailand than Aus for instance.
The small but necessary jobs, i.e. dismantle the anchor winch as the chain counter stopped working. The reason for this was that the magnet had rusted away. Try to find a magnet is the next BIG problem, we have tried all sorts, including fridge magnets, and also the magnet inside one of those shake torches. The trouble then is that they have to be re sized, and then lose their magnetism, we are still struggling with this , no luck yet. Meanwhile Stuart has serviced the winch and repainted it.
Meanwhile, I have cleaned all the upholstery and washed everything in sight, painted the light fitting rims white etc. It is annoying that the light rims go green with the salt air. However they look much better now. Then, of course there is the constant battle with rust runs under and around deck fittings. These all get an acid wash, next the stainless steel that is not entirely stainless needs polish etc etc. Finally, the hull itself needs wax polish, especially with the constant hot sunshine dulling it so quickly.
However, when we are exhausted, and hot, and grumpy, we can then retire to the lovely pool in the resort itself. Fresh towels are delivered to our loungers and we can plunge into the pool, but ,wait, the water is THIRTYFOUR degrees, so really a warm bath!! At least when we get out, the faint breeze is cooling as we lie back, think of Scotland, and sip a long cool Pina Colada aaaaah !
That has been our routine for the last couple of weeks, we are now almost prepared for the next 4000 miles, a whole new and exciting story. It all starts on May 3rd.
