Good News-Bad News

Hello to all our yachtie friends, it is so long again since I have posted a blog, but the moment has at last arrived that I can talk to you all.

Home!!

The last lap, so we left Garry’s Anchorage at 5.50am to catch the incoming tide to cross the bar. No wind at all. We started down the “mad mile” towards the bar crossing – not for the faint hearted today, it was like a washing machine, however the largest wave we saw was about 3 metres. Finally [...]

Yankee Jack Creek

Off yet again at 5.45 am, I was almost sleepwalking as the skipper did his usual, go, go, now.........

Nearly Home

We had a lovely quiet day in the creek, we even played cards and Scrabble, beaten again!!!

27 October 2011 | Pancake Creek

Dawn Start

Up at 4.30am [we must be mad]! To get to Pancake Creek before tomorrow, when a S Easter is forecast, means a very long haul today. We will pass Cape Capricorn at about 10am before sailing down the outside of Curtis Island and Gladstone etc.

Another Ripper!!

Another day, this time up at 5am and underway at 5.40am. The water is like oil, not a breath of wind. The clouds are quite heavy at present, but it is very early yet.

Bus Trip

On the 30th we went ashore to see the resort and it's facilities, it was most disappointing. On enquiry they wanted to charge us 20RM a head to use the pool, so naturally no one used it. We then had lunch on the terrace with some of our group, the body language of the staff was not at all welcoming. This is the first time that we have felt this in Malaysia. It was so poor that their communications lady thought that there were only 6 yachts in the bay,{she had not even been outside to look} there were over 20 in fact!
After that we all took our own sundowners to the beach.
The 31st saw us on the coaches at 8.30am and off for the day. First stop was a tropical fruit farm, where we had an interesting tour. It is totally organic and they make their own pesticide by putting fruit skins, fallen fruit, vinegar and water, plus a small amount of alcohol, all this into a barrel and leave to ferment. This is then diluted in water and used as a spray, which obviously works.
They then gave us all a huge assortment of fresh fruit to try. Naturally, we also purchased some to take with us.
Next we went to a local village, where we were greeted with much enthusiasam, drums and hand drums, [ a skin over a wooden hoop]. A delicious lunch was served, then we were invited to see a local house that is available for " Homestay". Many group photos were taken! Onwards to a resort at a waterfall, " interesting". Here we were served afternoon tea, {less than an hour since lunch}! We were underwhelmed here. Back on the buses and home to our yachts.
